Rescue work is currently underway in the rubble. Many more people were buried under thousands of collapsed buildings. Many trapped people are screaming for help from under the rubble.
On Monday (January 6) at 4:17 am local time, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Turkey-Syria border region. At that time most of the people of both the countries were in deep sleep.
Then a magnitude 7.6 and several aftershocks rocked an area of Syria. At least 10 cities in Turkey were also destroyed. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has already issued a three-month state of emergency in these cities.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake was felt in Turkey, Syria as well as Cyprus, Lebanon, Israel, and Egypt. Within a few hours, hundreds of aftershocks with a magnitude of 7.5 have hit those areas.
