The Dhaka Times Desk Lakshmipur's aesthetic household ornaments made from the shed shells of betel nut trees are recognized as small scale industries.
M/s Brothers Eco Craft, a company that manufactures aesthetic products from betel leaves and shells, has been registered as a small scale industrial enterprise. Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSIC) Lakshmipur district branch gave this registration to the company on March 19.
The matter was informed through a letter signed by Maksudur Rahman, Acting Deputy Manager of BSIC Lakshipur District Office on Tuesday (March 21) morning.
Mamunur Rashid, proprietor of M/s Brothers Craft, said, 'We apply online for registration. My organization has been registered as a small scale industry in the manufacture of taijaspatra, which is opened by filling up the form and submitting it. Later, the deputy manager of the district office explained the certificate of registration.
Brothers Eco Craft is making 14 products including plates, bowls, snack trays, photo frames, clocks, wedding cards, wallets and shoes from betel nut shells. These eco-friendly and healthy products are going to different parts of the country including Dhaka.
Entrepreneur Mamunur Rashid developed this factory after watching videos of making these products on YouTube.
On March 6, 2019, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a betel leaf-made taijsatra during her visit to the multipurpose jute fair stalls in Dhaka. In August of the same year, a buyer named Jeric from New Zealand came to the Raipur factory. At this time, he expressed his excitement to see these products produced in the rural environment.
In 2017, Mamunur Rashid of Tulatli area of Keroa, southwest of Raipur municipality, showed interest in making betel leaf taijaspatra after watching a video on YouTube. At the beginning of 2019, he installed the necessary equipment in a tin shed and started manufacturing various products. People from far and wide came to see his factory.
14 types of products have been made in this factory including tableware. 10 workers work here regularly. 20 lakhs have already been invested. This is the first factory in Lakshmipur.
These can be used for several years if dry food is served and water is not used. Moreover, it has been reported in the media that no harmful chemicals are used in their production.
