Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) yesterday (Thursday). It also called for 'undeclared martial law' in effect in parts of the country and the issuance of a suo moto notice of an ongoing offensive crackdown (Operation Sixteen) against his party.
Imran Khan through his lawyer Hamid Khan also requested the Supreme Court to probe the government's decision to help the armed forces exercise powers under Article 245 of the Constitution in the Federal Capital Territory, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. - Khabar Express Tribune.
The petition further said that the exercise of this power directed by the Federal Cabinet despite the absence of objective conditions is clearly violative of fundamental rights. Imran Khan has also requested the formation of a commission headed by a Supreme Court judge to investigate his arrest on May 9 and the subsequent events.
It may be noted that after the arrest of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the case against 16 people involved in the attack on military installations and desecration of martyrs' memorials will be heard in a military court. Meanwhile, Imran Khan alleged that his party leaders were being forced to resign. After May 9, several top PTI leaders resigned. Asad Umar announced his resignation from the post of PTI General Secretary. Earlier, party senior vice president Fawad Chowdhury and Shireen Mazari resigned from PTI.
