The Dhaka Times Desk At least 37 people were injured in a major explosion in the French capital Paris. Four of the injured are in serious condition and two others are missing.
Yesterday, Wednesday (June 21), the explosion occurred in a building in central Paris. The building on Rue Saint-Jacques in central Paris is home to a design school and the headquarters of the Catholic education system, the BBC reported. After the blast, emergency workers began searching through the wreckage of the building. At least 2 people are believed to be missing so far. According to witnesses, there was a strong smell of gas before the explosion.
Paris prosecutor Laure Bequeu said the building is located next to the Val de Grace church and preliminary examination of camera footage showed that the explosion took place inside the building. However, the authorities said that the cause of the explosion was not yet known.
Paris police chief Laurent Nunez told the media that after the explosion, the building caught fire after it was brought under control. The area was cordoned off and French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin visited the scene.
Media say the area where the explosion occurred is popular with tourists visiting Paris and the area is also known for being home to many students.
