The Dhaka Times Desk The moon of the month of Zilhaj was seen in the sky of Bangladesh on Sunday, as a result, the holy Eid-ul-Azha will be held on October 16, the National Moon Sighting Committee said.
Earlier in the evening, the National Moon Sighting Committee, organized by the Islamic Foundation, held a meeting on the moon sighting of the month of Zilhaj on the occasion of Idul Azha Uzzapan. According to the Islamic Foundation, the news of the country's first moon sighting came from Gaibandha and Thakurgaon of Rangpur Division on Sunday evening.
Director General of Islamic Foundation Samim Md. Afzal told reporters that since the moon was seen in the evening in Gaibandha and Thakurgaon of Rangpur division of Bangladesh, the holy Eidul Adha will be held on October 16.
Meanwhile, it has already been reported that the holy Eid al-Adha will be celebrated in Saudi Arabia on October 15. At present, many citizens of Bangladesh are staying in Saudi Arabia to perform the holy Hajj. As a result, they will gather at Arafat Maidan on 15th for the purpose of Idul Azha Uzzapan.
Eid al-Adha is a holy festival for Muslims and it is observed as the second major festival of Muslims. In this religious festival of Muslims, animals are sacrificed, through which the teaching of Islam is to get rid of one's inner corruption and to gain the satisfaction of the Creator.
