The judge is said to have started writing the verdict after the arguments in the case were over on October 20. The Lalbagh police station became the plaintiff in the Pilkhana murder incident and filed a case with the Lalbagh police station on various charges including murder, torture, looting and arson in the Pilkhana. Later the case was transferred to New Market police station. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police has been entrusted with the investigation of the case. After the investigation, the CID filed a charge sheet in the court on July 12, 2010 accusing 824 people. Later, 26 more persons were added in the supplementary charge sheet. The number of accused stands at 850. 20 of them are absconding. Four died. Currently 813 accused are in jail. And 13 people are on bail. Among the accused are 23 people from outside the BDR, including four women. Among them are BNP leader Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu and Awami League leader Torab Ali. A court was constructed in the ground adjacent to Aliya Madrasa on Umesh Dutt Road in Bakshi Bazar for handling the case. There, the trial began on January 5, 2011. According to sources, there were 1,287 witnesses in the Pilkhana murder case. Among the witnesses, 654 people, including CID Special Superintendent of Police Abdul Kahar Akand, who investigated the case for the state, gave evidence.
The judicial process of this case was started by the judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court.
