One of the reasons for this is that even though the teachers are the builders of the country, no government looks at them throughout the year. They don't even get the minimum allowance properly. And secondly, there are allegations that opposition parties play politics with teachers to keep the political field hot or to put pressure on the government.
On May 15, the protesting private registered primary school teachers were severely beaten by the police when they went to the Prime Minister's office to hand over a memorandum. At least 30 teachers were injured in reckless lathicharge and hot water from water cannons. Three of them are in critical condition. The agitating teachers complained that they went to the Prime Minister's office without eating at Petpur to hand over their memorandum. But the police put a barricade on the way. Ignoring this barricade, some teachers took a stand on Shahbagh main road and the police lathi-charged them. 30 teachers were injured. 3 of them are in serious condition. Besides, 20 teachers have been arrested. The teacher leaders said that if their demands are not met, they will lock up 24,000 private primary schools and spend the night at Shahid Minar if necessary.
The agitating teachers said that if no response is received from the government by 3 pm today, May 16, they will go on a strict agitation. At the same time, the teachers will be in the field to demand their demands by calling for hunger strike and hunger strike if they are not allocated in this budget. Meanwhile, the police have arrested 15 to 20 people, including Mansur Ali of Oikya Parishad, among the agitating teacher leaders. They say that Netrakona teacher leader Idris Ali has fallen seriously ill after the hot water fired by the police water cannon entered his nose and ears.
It is learned that the teachers were stopped by the police barricade when they left for the Prime Minister's office from the Central Shaheed Minar on May 15 afternoon with a procession to give a memorandum demanding job officialization. At that time, the agitating teachers ignored the barricades and tried to take the procession, but the police stopped them. According to the police, they did not want to obstruct the peaceful march of the teachers. But a section of teachers came to the main road at Shahbagh and caused suffering to the common people and some teachers broke the chain by breaking the police barricade. As a result, the police were forced to fire water cannons. The teachers said that at least 30 teachers were injured by police batons. 6 of them were treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. They are Shahid Mia of Narsingdi, Idris Ali of Netrakona, Mansoor Ali of Jashore, KM Mezbaur Rahman of Sirajganj, Mansoor Ali of Natore and Mominul Islam of Dinajpur. Among them, Idris Ali was later admitted to Bardem Hospital.
Teacher leaders complained that 24,000 private primary school teacher representatives have gathered in Dhaka to demand their demands. A total of 96,000 teachers have been demanding the officialization of their jobs for a long time.
It is learned that from 12:30 noon the teachers gathered and started coming towards the main road at Shahbagh to present their memorandum to the Prime Minister. Md. Anwar Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Police, told the teachers that no representative from the government will come here. Some of your representatives will go to the Prime Minister's office with the memorandum. Arrangements will be made to deliver them to the Prime Minister. If you want, the Prime Minister's office and the concerned parties will be contacted immediately.
In this regard, Abdur Rahman Bachchu, Secretary General of the Private Primary Teachers Union, took the microphone and clarified that the teachers are not agreeing to the proposal to send some representatives to the Prime Minister's office. They all want to go from Shahbagh to submit the memorandum. Aminul Islam Chowdhury, president of Primary Teachers Union Parishad, said that if the demands are not met, 24,000 schools across the country will be locked from today.
It can be understood from the above statement, if the demand is only about the teachers, then why was not heard about sending some representatives to the Prime Minister's office. Because there is no provision to march to the Prime Minister's office.
Teachers are the builders of the country's beauty. It is the government's responsibility to look after their opportunities. But again and again governments come and go, but their demands are limited to discussions and assurances. We think the demands of the teachers are very reasonable. The government should look into this demand. But at the same time, teachers should be careful so that no political influence takes place in this movement. Because political influence will not bring good news for anyone.
