The Dhaka Times Desk Legendary music artist Manna's condition remains unchanged. He is currently on ventilation in the hospital. He is also undergoing regular dialysis.
His physical condition has remained the same for the past two weeks. According to doctors at Bangalore's Narayan Hridalaya, though his condition has not deteriorated, he is still in a critical condition.
This legend of the music world turned 94 on May 1. Manna De has been staying with her younger daughter in Bangalore for a long time. There he fell ill. He was kept under observation at his home in Kalyan Nagar for several days and was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
Prabodh Chandra De, nicknamed Manna De, was born on 1 May 1919 in Calcutta. This talented artist won the hearts of countless listeners by singing numerous songs in various languages including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati. He has also earned great fame as a playback singer in Hindi and Bengali films. He sang powerfully in numerous films including 'Zanjeer', 'Mera Naam Joker', 'Anand', 'Sholay' from the 1940s to the 1970s. Manna Dey has sung more than three and a half thousand songs in a musical career of sixty years.
He was awarded Padma Shri in 1971, Padma Vibhushan in 2005 and Dada Saheb Phal in 2009 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the world of music. This year the artist was honored with the Maha Sangeet Samana by the West Bengal Government.
It is to be noted that on June 8, he was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. He is suffering from pneumonia and kidney complications.
