The Dhaka Times Desk Jatiya Party is returning to the elections again. The party's senior presidium member, recently expelled leader Kazi Zafar Ahmed thinks so.
Kazi Zafar Ahmed said today, he has learned from reliable sources that Roshan Ershad has been appointed as the chairman of H. M. Ershad will retire or go abroad for treatment. He thinks that this means that Ershad will once again come out of the announcement of boycotting the elections.
Kazi Zafar claimed to reporters at his Gulshan residence today that Roshan Ershad, Anisul Islam Mahmud and Ziauddin Bablu do not want to come out of the election government.
Meanwhile, Kazi Zafar Ahmed clarified to the reporters that he will not return to the original team. In response to the question of how many old people will be in the new party that he has mentioned, Kazi Zafar Ahmed said, at least 20 to 25 people are with me. When asked why they are not there now, he said, since there is a blockade, they could not come. Regarding Ershad, he said, 'Even if Ershad contacts me, I will not do it. Ershad's Jatiya Party and my Jatiya Party will not be one.'
Meanwhile, political analysts say from Kazi Zafar's comments that Ershad can return to the election again. Time will tell the rest.
It is to be noted that after Jatiya Party joined the Council of Ministers of the current all-party government, Kazi Zafar Ahmed was expelled from the hospital when he harshly criticized Ershad as 'dishonest'. Later, Kazi Zafar Ahmed himself announced the formation of a party with the same name. Meanwhile, he has met the BNP chairperson and announced his solidarity with the current movement.
