The election of 7 seats of the 10th National Parliament was held yesterday. Among them Manjurul Islam of Awami League in Gaibandha-1 seat, Yunus Ali of Awami League in Gaibandha-3 seat, Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali of Awami League in Dinajpur-4 seat, MA Awal of Tarikat Federation (with boat symbol) in Lakshmipur-1 seat, Bogra-7 seat. Jatiya Party candidate Muhammad Altaf Hossain (Plough), independent candidate Swapan Bhattacharya (Kals) in Jessore-5 seat and independent candidate Abul Kalam Azad (Pineapple) won in Gaibandha-4 seat. The Election Commission declared them the winners privately.
Polling in 390 centers of 7 parliamentary constituencies in 5 districts, which were suspended due to disturbances, was held peacefully on Thursday. The polling took place from 8 am to 4 pm. But voter turnout and enthusiasm was very low. Locals said that there was little interest among the voters due to the fact that the government had already been formed and the severe cold and fog. However, there were no reports of violence like the January 5 elections. There was tight security at the polling stations. Election Commission Senior Assistant Secretary Farhad Hossain said that over 50 percent of votes were cast in these re-polling seats yesterday.
