Citing Edward Snowden, The New York Times reported that 100,000 machines were equipped with devices that emit wireless waves. According to the newspaper, the Chinese and Russian militaries were targeted as well as drug traffickers.
US President Barack Obama is expected to address the NSA's activities on Friday. The paper cited sources on Barack Obama's plan to ban mass wiretapping and appoint a representative of the public to the intelligence agency. Strict restrictions on foreign surveillance will be imposed. It is believed that this step will be taken to prevent the political collapse of the United States due to the collection of information from the communications media without the knowledge of the world leaders.
According to recent leaks, the NSA is collecting information using small circuit boards or USB cards and radio waves on computers. Internet connection is not mandatory in this process. Although this technology is not new, its use by US security agencies was previously unknown.
An NSA spokesman described it as being used against foreign intelligence agencies for intelligence purposes. According to him, foreign spying capabilities are not used to steal confidential business information and give it to their own companies.
