The Dhaka Times Desk Rafiqul Islam, a resident of Bihari camp area of Bakchar in Jessore city, cultivated rice on the roof of his own two-storey house and created a different example!
Mr. Rafiqul Islam planted rice seedlings of Boro BR-28 variety in the artificial land made with the roof railing of his house. The rice seedlings planted by Rafiqul have grown and now the crops have arrived there. The entire roof is now covered with paddy. Rafiqul planted paddy on the roof of his house on a total of 3 percent of the land.
Rafiqul Islam's house has two floors, Rafiqul himself lives on the second floor with his family. The ground floor is rented to a factory. Rafiqul himself is a businessman. Apart from business, Rafiqul's hobby is gardening. Earlier he had planted fruit trees on his roof but all those trees did not produce well. That's why he cut them off. But Rafiqul Islam did not give up, he decided that he will cultivate here again, but this time some other crop. He decided to cultivate paddy.
Rafiqul Islam built a high railing around his roof and plastered it again with plastic 2 inches thick. As a result, it can be said that there will be no damage to the house by adding soil to that part. Later he put soil there and used various home-made garbage as fertilizer.
Rafiqul Islam said, 'At first when I started paddy cultivation, everyone in the neighborhood was skeptical about the matter, but when these plants gradually grew and flowers came, everyone's opinion changed. Now rice has arrived in my garden. I will pick paddy very soon. The yield has been very good.'
Rafiqul Islam hopes that he will get 2 heart's worth of paddy from his 3 century paddy field on his terrace. Rafiqul Islam said that he is not considering the amount of rice. He is considering it as a matter of love and affection.
There is a land crisis in our country, day by day the agricultural land of the village is being destroyed to make housing for buses. Urbanization is increasing rapidly so if it continues for some time we will face food crisis. Keeping this in mind, if everyone plans to cultivate vegetables or crops from their respective positions, it can play a special role in dealing with environmental disasters and food shortages.
