It is believed that the Step Pyramids were built during the reign of Pharaoh King Pharaoh Huni or Pharaoh Nephru for provincial purposes. They are about 43 feet (13 m) high. At various times, the stone pillars of the step pyramids have been looted and the pillars are covered in snow. As a result, it now looks only 16 feet tall.
