When the election comes, a festival can be observed among the people. But in the third phase of the election yesterday, the celebration of occupying the polling station is going on in several upazilas. Apart from this, there were incidents like detention of presiding officers, attacks on magistrates, police officers and journalists, armed drills, cocktail parties and even firing in yesterday's elections. Many polling stations were temporarily closed as the situation got out of control. Polling in 26 centers has been completely suspended due to clashes. 3 people were killed during clashes between supporters of rival candidates and looting of ballot papers and motorcycling in violation of election code of conduct. Another person was killed in the clash between two rival candidates regarding the fourth round of elections on March 23.
Sources in the media said that not only the supporters of the ruling party, this time the supporters of the 19-party alliance led by the BNP also participated in the celebration of occupying the polling stations. Especially in some upazilas, there have been more complaints against Jamaat supporters.
Candidates supported by Awami League are ahead of BNP supported candidates in winning the chairman post in the election. According to the latest news, candidates supported by Awami League in 40 upazilas out of 78 upazilas and candidates supported by BNP in 27 upazilas and candidates supported by Jamaat in 8 upazilas and other candidates are leading in 3 constituencies.
It should be noted that the fourth phase of the upazila elections will be held on March 23 and the fifth phase will be held on March 31.
