According to the demand of Bangladesh Hawkers Federation, if the hawkers of Dhaka metropolis give that money to the city corporation authority without paying the police, line man or toll collectors, then the city corporation authority will earn 146 crore taka. And in return the hawkers will also get a legitimate means of income.
Bangladesh Hawkers Federation, the national organization of hawkers, strongly urged the government to take action against extortion. They say that they have been donating an average of 50 taka per day to various quarters. This does not benefit the country. On the contrary, individuals are benefiting. Calculating the total of these subscriptions, it is seen that it is about 4 crore 5 lakh taka daily. The hawkers want to coordinate this huge amount of money and pay it as toll to the Dhaka City Corporation authorities.
In this case, the hawkers' federation proposed that the government would give them some space on the footpath and keep some space for pedestrians. By doing this, the hawkers will leave the road and sit on the pavement. And each hawker will pay a toll of Rs 27 to the government for 9 square feet of space. According to the sources of the organization, there are more than two and a half lakh hawkers in Dhaka city alone. The number of shops operated by them is about 1 lakh 50 thousand.
Bangladesh Hawkers Federation President MA Kashem said, "We don't want to pay contribution, we demand our rehabilitation from the government. In return we are willing to pay a huge toll to the government. We have already submitted a proposal to the city corporation which they have taken into consideration.”
Meanwhile, DSCC administrator said. Alamgir Ali is said to be overseeing the task of bringing the hawkers under the tax umbrella through rehabilitation. He has already given an instruction to the Chief Revenue Officer to take all measures in this regard.

Meanwhile, hawkers have submitted a list to the city corporation to legally set up shop on pavements in some areas of Dhaka. These areas are the footpath and empty space on the east side of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the footpath or empty space in front of Sena Kalyan Bhawan and Wasa in Motijheel, Prothom Alo Street and its side street on the west side of Sonali Bank Head Office, abandoned empty space on the east side of Baitul Mukarram Mosque, Jatra Bari. Empty space from Chaurasta to Dholaipar, empty space on the north side of the road from Kajla to Shanirakhra, footpath and empty space on the banks of the river Waizghat Burigangar, empty space behind Sena Kalyan Bhawan and Bangladesh Bank, southwest side of Kamalapur-Mugda Stadium and empty space on the east side of Tttipara Basti, Empty lot south side of stadium, empty lot west side of road in front of Sadek Hossain Khoka Community Centre.
