Guest birds are being freely hunted under the nose of the administration!

The Dhaka Times Desk Thousands of guest birds are being caught by hunters with chatmohar. At the beginning of winter, all the small fishes are found in the dried up water bodies. Flocks of guest birds have taken shelter in the bill because of the desire to eat these fish. And on this occasion birds are being hunted and sold in the market freely from the bill.

It is known that the hunters have made special traps by burying poles at different points of the bank. In front of these traps, the hunting buck is kept in a bamboo bowl. When a flock of bucks flocks over the set trap, the hunter makes the buck dance. At one point, when the hunting buck starts calling, the herd of bucks sits on a specially constructed trap. Then the hunter takes one buck from inside and fills it in the cage. Some professional bird hunters are reported to be in Boyailmari, Sengram, Nimaichra, Katakhali Samaj, Handyal Hasmari, Dahiya and Bildahar and Gurdaspur areas within Chatmohar Chalanchil.

Ismail, Jamal Hossain and Ranju, residents of Sengram Nimaira village of Chalanbil, said that the land wakes up as the water in the bill begins to recede at the end of the monsoon. And because there is little water in the land, there are also a fish or two. And with the greed of eating this fish, various species of birds, including guests, flock to the bill. It is on this occasion that the greedy hunters hunt the birds for traps.

Daisy Ahmed, a member of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Environment Movement (Bapa) and member secretary of Chalanbil Development Society, said that at one time 30-40 species of guest birds flocked to Chalanbil to eat fish. But birds are not seen as before. Because birds don't want to come there if they don't think it's safe. He also said that many species of birds that are currently coming are being caught in the trap of hunters. Chalanbil's biodiversity is facing threats today due to greedy bird hunters.

When asked about bird hunting, Harunar Rashid Khan, forest officer of Chalanbil region, said that those who are hunting birds or 'bucks' are not professionals. They are doing this because of hobby. In this case, if social resistance is not formed, it is not possible to stop bird hunting only by law.
