According to the World Health Organization or WHO, 107 million bags of blood are collected every year through blood donation programs around the world. These bloods are used to save human life. But even after this it is not possible to meet the demand of blood. Especially in developing countries blood is not available when needed. Moreover, because drug addicts donate blood without any kind of blood test, there is a fear of spreading more terrible diseases from this blood. In order to eliminate this imbalance, researchers at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom began to develop alternative artificial blood. Researchers claim, this artificial blood is safe and virus free. Artificial blood production began under a project called HYEM 02. This artificial blood does not require special temperature for storage. This blood can be stored for about 2 years at normal temperature.
The head of this project while explaining about this project said that it will be possible to use this blood in various natural disasters as it can be stored for a long time. There is no need to test the customer's body blood group for this blood. As a result, this blood can be applied to the body of any group of people. He also said that artificial blood is called human blood oxygen carrier. which can play the role of red blood cells. Its job is to deliver oxygen to body tissues.
The research team said that this invention of theirs is still in the initial stage, it will take some more time for this blood to become commercially available. However, there is hope that the Government Medical Science Association of the United Kingdom has allocated more than 2.5 million dollars to speed up this project.
