There is no exemption for anyone who violates the traffic laws on the road - Minister of Communications

The Dhaka Times Desk Communication Minister Obaidul Quader said that no one will be exempted from violating the traffic laws except the Prime Minister and the President. He said this yesterday in an immediate reaction while conducting the operation on the initiative of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

The Communications Minister said that except for the Prime Minister and the President, no exemption will be given to anyone who violates the traffic laws on the road. This was said by the Minister of Communications when he came to the public awareness program and drive on legal motorcycle riding in Farmgate area of the capital on Tuesday morning. The campaign is being conducted under the initiative of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

The minister announced that the operation of BRTA will continue after arriving at the scene. He directed BRTA Executive Director Abul Bashar, who led the operation, to conduct the operation in such a way that the situation changes overnight. No one should drive without a license and without a helmet.

Obaidul Quader stayed at the scene for about 15 minutes after giving this order to Executive Director Abul Bashar. At this time, he himself checked the papers of two motorcyclists. The minister said that BRTA will conduct the campaign not only for today but throughout the year. I myself have and will occasionally participate in these expeditions.

The minister also told BRTA executive director Abul Bashar in front of the reporters that there are many motorcycles without registration and many people drive without helmets. Many others drive on the sidewalk. These irregularities must be stopped forever.

It is to be noted that there are occasional clean-up operations. But soon the same situation happened again. Riding a motorcycle without a helmet is prohibited, but the rule is not always followed in the capital. Despite the High Court's directives, motor cycles are often seen being lifted on footpaths.
