The Dhaka Times Desk The High Court has asked for all the information regarding permission to broadcast Indian channels. The High Court gave this order on Thursday.
After the preliminary hearing on a writ petition, the High Court on Thursday asked the High Court to submit a report on permission and payment of fees for broadcasting of various Indian television channels in Bangladesh.
After the preliminary hearing of the writ application, Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Abu Taher Md. Saifur Rahman's vacation bench passed the order. The court, in an oral order, asked the petitioner and the cable TV network to submit the report by next Tuesday.
The lawyer is handling the case on behalf of the petitioner. Ekhlas Uddin Bhuiyan and Advocate Abdul Matin Khosru for Cable TV Network.
The petitioner's lawyer Ekhlas Uddin Bhuiyan later said, “The people of the network told the court that they are broadcasting with permission. The bank pays a fee for this.
“The court has asked both parties to file two affidavits in this regard. Is there permission to broadcast again, if so, who has it? Whether money has been deposited in Bangladesh Bank or not; These matters have also been asked to be reported in the affidavit."
It is to be noted that this writ was filed in the High Court on August 7, seeking intervention in stopping the broadcasting of Indian channels in Bangladesh.
The writ sought a ruling as to why Indian channels should not be banned from broadcasting in Bangladesh.
Apart from the ruling, the plaintiff has also sought directions to stop broadcasting of Star Jalsa, Zee Bangla and Star Plus in Bangladesh within 7 days.
Earlier, the plaintiff's lawyer had given a notice to the government to stop showing all kinds of Indian TV channels in Bangladesh.
