Sources in charge of the court said Nafees could face a short jail term as he pleaded guilty before the trial began. After serving the prison sentence, he will be able to return to his parents in Bangladesh.
Nafis, who went to the United States on a student visa in January last year, was arrested by the FBI in a sting operation last October. He is accused of planning to blow up the Federal Reserve Building in New York using a mass-produced weapon and of having ties to Al Qaeda. However, Nafis's family in Dhaka rejected such allegations and claimed that he was the victim of a conspiracy.
