Japanese media reported that the 30 climbers found lifeless near the summit of Ontake had stopped breathing. Even their hearts have stopped. In Japan, death is usually confirmed after a medical examination. Saturday's sudden eruption at Mount Ontake spewed out large amounts of ash and small rocks.
At least 250 climbers were trapped after the eruption began. Later, most of the climbers were able to descend safely, but at least 50 were trapped. Among them, 30 deaths were reported on Sunday. The rest of the tourists are still missing, according to media reports.
