The Dhaka Times Desk The judgment of Mir Kasem Ali accused in the case of crimes against humanity is next Sunday. The 3-member bench headed by Justice Obaidul Hasan, chairman of the International Criminal Tribunal-II, gave this date on Thursday.
The International Criminal Tribunal-2 has set the date for announcing the verdict of Mir Kasem Ali, a member of Jamaat Karma Parishad and chairman of Digant Media Corporation, detained in the case of crimes against humanity.
On May 4, the arguments of the accused ended. Since then, the tribunal declared the case (CAV) pending judgment. His lawyer Barrister Tanveer Ahmed Al Amin concluded his arguments on behalf of Mir Kashem Ali. Then the counter argument was presented by the prosecution. Before that, lawyer Mizanul Islam also presented his arguments. On the other hand, on April 27 and 28, Zeyad Al Malum, Sultan Mahmud Seeman and Barrister Turin Afroz presented arguments on behalf of the state. After the presentation of the arguments of both sides, the court ordered that the case will be announced on any day.
At the end of the arguments, the prosecution claimed that they have been able to prove the guilt of Mir Kasem Ali. He also expressed hope that he will be given the maximum punishment for this. On the other hand, the accused claims, 'The allegations brought against Mir Kasem Ali are false and baseless. The prosecution failed to prove their allegations. They hope that Mir Kashem Ali will be acquitted.
It is to be noted that when the court issued an arrest warrant against Mir Kasem Ali on June 17, 2012, he was arrested from the office of daily Naya Digant in Motijheel that afternoon and produced before the tribunal.
