According to international media reports, Air Asia flight QZ8501 with 162 passengers was going from Indonesia to Singapore. The flight departed from Surabaya's Juanda International Airport at 5:20 am local time. The plane was scheduled to arrive at Singapore's Changi Airport at 8:30 am, but Jakarta Air Traffic Control lost contact with the plane within an hour of taking off. According to the information, the plane was passing over the Java Sea at that time.
There were 155 passengers in the plane. 17 of them are children. Cabin crew 5 people. He was a pilot and co-pilot.
155 of the passengers are Indonesian nationals. There are 3 South Koreans and one each from Singapore, Malaysia, UK and France on the plane.
AirAsia said on its official Facebook page, "Just before the aircraft lost contact, the pilot requested a higher altitude approach due to adverse weather conditions to change course near Jakarta Air Traffic Control."
According to media reports, the plane was running at 32,000 feet. But due to heavy clouds in the sky, the pilot asked the control room for permission to fly above 38,000 feet.
A massive search has been underway since yesterday to find the plane. Meanwhile, the relatives of the passengers are worried. They are repeatedly protesting to the authorities of that airways.
