Due to the bumper yield of litchi this time, there is a possibility of selling litchi worth at least 500 crore rupees in Pabna Sadar and Ishwardi districts of the northern region. Farmers and agriculture officials said that due to favorable weather at the start of the season this year and few days of rain in Chaitra month, there has been a bumper yield of litchi. Thousands of farmers of Ishwardi, Pabna Sadar and Chatmohar upazilas have turned their fortunes by cultivating this litchi.
Padma Vidhaut Jayanagar, Rooppur of Ishwardi Upazila, known as the capital of litchi, has developed thousands of litchi gardens on thousands of hectares of land. Desi, Bombay, China three types of litchi are cultivated in the gardens of this area. 25 thousand 432 hectares of land have been cultivated in two upazilas. According to the sources of the Directorate of Agriculture, the total cultivation of litchi in the entire district has been done on 34 thousand 9 hectares of land.
After visiting the litchi garden, it was seen that the trees are adorned with toasted litchi. Every day wholesalers from different places go to the garden and buy litchi. Every day the sellers are busy picking litchis from trees and filling them in baskets. They don't have time to breathe now. Many people are buying fresh litchi from the garden.
This year the price of litchi is also within the reach of buyers. The price of 100 litchis of medium size is being sold at 150 to 200 taka. Every day, thousands of baskets of litchi are going to the remote areas of the country including Dhaka, Chittagong by trucks.
Hemayetpur, Dapunia, Ishwardi Jaynagar, Awtapara, Basherbada, Chalimpur, Rooppur, BBC Bazar, Jigatla in Pabna Sadar are now full of litchi wholesale buyers from different districts.
