The Dhaka Times Desk The joy can't hold anymore. Those who did not have a flag for so many years, did not have citizenship. Lived like a foreigner in his own country. They flew the flag of liberation today after sixty eight years.
Pushing the darkness of last night, the surroundings became bright with small lights. The people of the enclave have been enlightened by that light. That flag of long sixty-eight years of waiting has blown in the late night wind. That flag said - 'This sky is mine, this Bangladesh is mine now'.
The flag of Bangladesh was hoisted in the enclaves added to the border of Bangladesh at 12:01 pm on Friday. Each house is illuminated with 68 wax lamps. On the other hand, there was almost a similar picture in the enclaves annexed to India.
The taste of the long awaited release has become unique and caught everyone. The long lament of 'subjugation in one's own country' reached the fifty thousand inhabitants who wanted freedom. As those enclaves had no direct contact with the mainland of their respective countries, there was no state authority. Due to being within the borders of another country, there was no hospital, electricity, school-college or justice, administration in the enclave. The enclave lived like a subjugated nomad. That subjugation ended today.
Land border agreement between India and Bangladesh. According to that agreement, 111 enclaves of India with an area of 17 thousand 160.63 acres inside Bangladesh are now the territory of Bangladesh from August 1.
On the other hand, the 51 enclaves of Bangladesh with an area of 7,110,02 acres within India have been matched with the map of India today. And this is how the picture of sixty-eight years has changed. Today the enclave is overjoyed. Because what was like a golden deer for them till now, today they have caught it in their hands. Now they have a flag, they have citizenship. The opportunity to live independently in their own country is now in their hands.
The map of Bangladesh and India got a completeness due to the end of this long sixty-eight year unsolved problem. Henceforth the word 'enclave' will remain only in the pages of history.
Note that when the British rule ended in 1947, enclave complications started on the borders identified due to the haste of the Cyril Radcliffe Commission during the partition of the country. The Mujib-Indira Pact was signed in 1974 to end this problem. But it was not implemented for a long time. It was then signed into force in 2011. On May 7 of this year, the ratification document was handed over during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dhaka, when the way for the implementation of the agreement was cleared by amending the Constitution of India.
