The Dhaka Times Desk After the announcement of the Minister of State for Posts and Telecommunications about SIM re-registration, a lot of noise was created. The question arises as to why all customers register again. Yesterday it was said in this regard that the authorities will re-register the SIM, not the customers.
That is, the National Identity Card Project Authority is taking responsibility for verifying and selecting fake and unregistered SIMs. Mobile phone operators will submit the details of all SIMs sold by them to the National Identity Card Scheme Authority. This process will start from next Sunday. Now old customers don't have to register a new SIM on their own initiative. After verification of registration, only those SIMs which are falsely or not properly registered should be re-registered. Otherwise these SIMs will be blocked.
State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim said this in a press briefing held at the Secretariat on Thursday. He said that this decision has been taken to reduce the suffering of people in registration verification and selection. Earlier, Tarana Halim said that he had a meeting with all cell phone operators and the national identity card issuing project authorities.
Tarana Halim said, 'Until now, the operators will submit the data of all the SIMs sold to the national identity card issuing scheme authority. The project authority will verify and sort these data. The project authority will report to the ministry in this regard. Later, based on the information provided by them, the owner of the unregistered and fake SIMs will be messaged to register. If the registration is not done after that, those SIMs will be cancelled. He said that after the registration is completed in this process, the mobile operators will sell the SIM with the fingerprint on the device while selling the new SIM.
