The Dhaka Times Desk Free movie 'Codegirl' can be seen on YouTube. The film is made by 'An Inconvenient Truth' and 'Waiting for Superman'-famous director Lesley Chilcott.
TechCrunch recently reported that the film will be available on YouTube for free as part of Google's 'Made with Code' project. But this opportunity is only till November 5. Then the film will be released in theaters within a few weeks.
Speaking about the film, YouTube head Susan Wojciechski said, 'Codegirl' is a film made with 5,000 girls from 60 countries who participated in Technovation, a global business venture and coding competition. These girls are given 3 months to create an app to solve a local problem. In the film, they interact with competition teachers and local mentors, learn to code and present their new ideas in hopes of winning $10,000 in competition.'
Susan Wojciechski was quoted as saying in the news media that most films do not give popular roles to women. A survey of popular films in 11 countries found that only 20 percent of women were cast in computer science or technology roles.
