The Dhaka Times Desk Traffic has resumed on Bangabandhu Bridge. The number of people killed in that accident, including the son of the land minister, stands at 9.
Due to dense fog, several accidents occurred in the Bangabandhu Bridge in the morning. During this time, 9 people were killed, including Rana, the son of Lands Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif Dilu. At least 45 people including police and journalists were injured.
Today (Saturday) around 7:30 am, this casualty occurred in a collision between a bus-truck at the eastern end of the bridge and a bus, microbus and private car at the western end.
Abul Kalam Azad, executive engineer of the bridge authority told the media, "at least 24 vehicles collided with each other in two separate accidents due to thick fog."
Rana Sharif (35), Mezzo son of Lands Minister, was taken to Tangail Medical College Hospital from the accident site. Doctors declared him dead. Rana was going to Dhaka from Ishwardi.
The minister's son-in-law, the newly elected mayor of Ishwardi Municipality, Abul Kalam Azad Mintu, reached the spot after getting devastated. Take away the body of the minister's son. It has been informed that he will be buried in the central graveyard after evening prayers at Ishwardi Central Eidgah Maidan.
Among the injured are four journalists. They have been admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital. They are - Rifat Rahman, Sirajganj representative of Machranga TV, Rinku Kundu, Sirajganj representative of Time TV, Ashraf Ali, cameraperson of Channel I and Nazmul Islam, cameraperson of Channel 24.
Traffic on the bridge was completely closed since the accident in the morning till noon. Traffic on the bridge became normal after 1 pm after the accident affected vehicles were removed.
