This famous tree is called Pioneer Cabin Tree. It is a tree of the sequoia family. At the end of the 18th century, a tunnel was cut through the trunk of this huge ancient tree to make a road for cars. That is why it is also known as tunnel tree. But this tree is no longer a witness of time. This historic tree has been broken by the stormy rains of the last few days.
The towering tree at Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Calaveras County, California, USA, collapsed last week, park officials told the media.
It is known that in the eighties of the 18th century, a tunnel was cut in the trunk of the sequoia tree to create a huge crater. The Calaveras Big Trees Association's Facebook page also posted photos of the downed tree from the storm.
This historic tree tunnel is 2.4 km long. The U.S. Forest Service said only tourists could pass through the tree tunnel.
According to the media, this historical tree has succumbed to the stormy rains that have lasted for several days in the central and northern parts of California.
According to the US National Park Service, giant sequoia trees live more than 3,000 years. This tree is also one of the longest living trees in the world.
