Suddenly there was a problem with your set. Like your phone doesn't have network, went to get it repaired. The shopkeeper said you need to install the 'Network IC' of your phone. Naturally you agreed. This is how you open your phone contacts. In fact, instead of 'IMEI' number, the phone code used by a criminal has become your phone!
What will happen now will happen. You may also be caught by the police. Because the police have evidence that the phone you are using is actually the phone of a tainted accused. Any mobile phone user can fall victim to such situations at any time. Officials of several intelligence agencies told the news media about this fear.
An officer of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police told the media that the IMEI number of a mobile phone is very important for identifying any type of criminal. It is mainly used to identify the identity and location of the accused.
They said that this method was not working well for the last 6 months. Most of the accused have been arrested. However, the location and identity of several accused could not be identified in any way. After some people were arrested, this information about changing the contact of the mobile phone came to light.
On April 27, based on a tip-off, the intelligence department of the police arrested some people from the footpath adjacent to the gate of the car parking of Twin Tower Concord Shopping Complex in Shantinagar area of the capital. During this time, Geyenda officials found some hardware and software to break mobile phone identity code. Through these it is possible to give a new contact by disappearing the original contact of an electronics device!
It is known that among the recovered devices was a device box called 'Z Three X'. Through the use of some other software, the identity of the accused in the police list was being concealed!
The people concerned said that basically the mobile phone's birth identity is in this 'IMEI' number. It is actually a unique code. With the help of this it is possible to know the detailed information of the mobile phone company. This number is used by the law enforcement officers to identify criminals. They can also know the information about the criminal gang and the type of crime.
Regardless of the company's SIM used in the mobile phone, the location of the user can be easily identified through this number. The security code of the phone used by the accused can also be recovered.
According to the intelligence information, about 90 percent of mobile repair companies in the capital use this method. Many people rush to them to locate lost mobile phones. Again, many accused are changing the secret code of his phone in exchange of huge amount of money in this way. Due to which it is not possible to identify the previous numbers used in that phone by law and order forces. By doing this criminals remain beyond the reach of technological tracking. They cannot be caught under any circumstances.
In this regard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police Mahmud Nasser Johnny told the media, 'After arresting two mobile phone experts named Shimul Chandra Pal and Mamun, they gave information about changing the secret code of the phone set. In exchange for money, the mobile phone contacts of criminals are also deleted. In this way, even an innocent person can be harassed.
How the 'IMEI' code is changed
This can be done very easily. Because the IMEI number changes only when the IC is changed to meet the network problem of the mobile phone set. And then the shopkeepers set new numbers. In this way, the network problem is removed, but the data of all the previous SIMs used in that set is completely deleted.
Intelligence officer Mahmud Nasser also told the media, 'This method is more common only in low-quality and low-cost sets. iPhone number cannot be changed under any circumstances. They don't take expensive phones like iPhones. Even if he forgets, he leaves it again on the street.'
The concerned also said that the software to change the IMEI number of the set is now easily available on the internet. This technology has been used by the stolen phone set buying and selling ring. Shopkeepers who buy stolen mobile phone sets quickly change the IMEI number. Then sold the set. That is why it is not possible to recover the phone set even after filing a GD or a case in case of theft.
According to intelligence information, investigating officers have found such mobile technicians in various cities including Rajshahi, Khulna Barisal, Chittagong, Comilla, Sylhet, Rangpur. According to their information, 95 out of 100 mobile phone repairers in Dhaka are involved in this illegal activity.
It is known that only six months ago, one had to go to the neighboring country India to change the IMEI number. Now you can change this number sitting in this cycle country. Various countries around the world have systems in place to control this type of crime by arranging for the recycling of old electronic equipment. As there is no such recycling system in our country, the use of old sets is increasing. Along with this, the criminal activities on mobile phones are also increasing by leaps and bounds.
Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Mahmud Nasser Jani told the media, "At present, about 10 percent of the sets cannot be identified because the criminals have changed their unique code. However, 'currently the expensive brand mobile phone set in the market with the kind of features that are being released in the market, there is no chance for the criminal gang to change the new code at all.'
In the published news, it is also known that they are using the software called Jet 3 X, Piranha to modify the mobile. It can be connected to a mobile phone or computer to change the unique code of the corresponding digital device, mobile phone, laptop or computer. It is now being used by the country's mobile phone technicians, according to the intelligence reports.
