Tulip, Rupa and Russana won the UK general election

The Dhaka Times Desk Three Bangladeshi-origin candidates Tulip Rezwana Siddique, Rupa Haque and Rushnara Ali won the UK general election.

Rupa was elected Member of Parliament (MP) from Ealing Central and Acton constituency in London and Tulip from Hampstead and Kilburn constituency in the same city. On the other hand, Rushnara Ali won from Bethnal and Green Bow constituency.

Out of these three, Rupa Haque and Rushnara Ali were elected as MPs from the Labor Party for the third time and Tulip Siddique for the second time.

It should be noted that all these three were MPs of Bangladeshi origin in the recently dissolved Parliament in the UK.

In Ealing Central and Acton, one of the most contested seats in London, the Labor candidate won 33 thousand 37 votes. His closest rival Jay Morrissey of the Conservative Party received only 19,230 votes.

On the other hand, Tulip Rezwana Siddique, the granddaughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman won by a margin of more than 15 thousand votes. In Hampstead and Kilburn, Tulip defeated Conservative candidate Edward Moe by 15,96 votes.

In Hampstead and Kilburn, Tulip received 34,464 votes, which is 59 per cent of the total vote in that constituency.

On the other hand, Rushnara Ali's hat-trick victory in the Bethnal and Green Bow seats in the British Parliament election also came with a huge margin. Rushnara Ali defeated the rival Conservative Party candidate by a huge margin of 35 thousand 393 votes.

It should be noted that 14 candidates of Bangladeshi origin contested for different parties in the general election of the United Kingdom this year.
