Because the entire police department is under him. But the opposite happened in Karnataka state of India. There is no one willing to be the Minister of Home Affairs!
According to media reports, none of the MLAs of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly are interested in going to the post of Home Minister in the state of Karnataka. Their fear is that their image may be damaged while handling the responsibilities of the ministry, which will indirectly affect the votes.
The home ministry in the Karnataka cabinet was left without a guardian after Governor Baju Bala accepted the resignation of minister G Parameshwar in that state. Recently, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah indicated the expansion of the cabinet with a total of 3 departments.
A Kolkata-based media outlet in India said that no one is interested in taking over the responsibility of the Home Ministry even though the other two ministries have started.
It is believed that the future of the concerned politician may be hurt if he takes charge of the ministry before the 2018 assembly elections. That's why no legislator is willing to take the risk.
According to Congress sources, the charge of the ministry could be given to any one of TB Jayachandra, B Ramalinga Reddy and Santosh Ladd. Speculation is rife in the halls of power, with no one willing to tie a bell to the cat amid talks of possible arrests of journalists in the state.
It is known that initially DK Sivakumar was reluctant to take over the ministry, but Siddaramaiah wanted to hand over two close colleagues, Bengaluru Development Minister J George and Works Minister HC Mahavedappa. However, none of the two agreed to leave their respective ministries to take up new responsibilities.
