According to sources, Australian citizen Bhola Pappas and her husband were hoping to have a baby boy. That's how they were preparing. But that dream of theirs saw the light of the world soon. Bhola Pappas' second daughter, Dimitra Pappas, was born at just 25 weeks. At the time of birth, the weight of this little baby Dimitra was about 950 grams, which can easily be taken in the palm of one hand.

It is known that this 'premature baby' Dimitra was born in Randwick Royal Hospital for Women in New South Wales, Australia last May. Dimitra is being hailed as a miracle child by the medical community as she is still alive after being born with severe physical complications.

It is reported that Bhola Pappas, a high school teacher in Liverpool, Sydney, was having a busy time teaching like any other day. When she suddenly started bleeding, she was rushed to Sydney's famous Royal Hospital for Women at Randwick. He was taken to the emergency department as his physical condition deteriorated rapidly. It was there that Pappas gave birth to Dimitra, this 'precocious child'. Narrating the incident, Pappas said the whole thing happened within 45 minutes. The doctors and all the midwives were totally amazed.

Born two months ago, Dimitra has been in intensive care at the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) since birth. Dimitra is miraculously still alive.

Explaining the incident of Dimitra, Associate Director of the Neonatal Department of the Royal Hospital, Prof. Kei Louis said that about 600 premature babies are born in this hospital every year. But most of them survive two to three months. There are also cases of babies born at 23 weeks weighing only 400 grams. However, they have a 50 percent chance of survival. 25-week-old Dimitra's condition was very serious and alarming. A newborn does not even have a five percent chance of survival in such a physical condition. Within a week of putting Dimitra on a ventilator and blood circulation incubator in the NICU, her weight had increased to 2.5 kg, said Kei Lui.

Professor Kei Lui said the precedent of such an incident is very rare in the whole world except at the Royal Hospital. He also said that Dimitra is truly a miracle in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of this hospital. Dimitra is now able to breathe on his own. Thus, if Dimitra can breathe like this within six weeks, he can be assumed to be completely healthy.
