It is known that at least 10 people were killed and 150 others were injured when a train named Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in the Khawtli area of Muzaffarnagar city yesterday (Saturday) in Uttar Pradesh, India. It is feared that the number of casualties may increase.
Railway sources in the country said that the condition of many of the injured is critical. Another carriage is mounted on a rail carriage. It is believed that the train was moving at a high speed.
This train runs on the Haridwar route in the northeastern state of Uttarakhand at a distance of 2,378 km from the city of Puri in the southeastern state of Odisha.
Local media reported that when the train that left Puri reached Khawtali on Friday afternoon, 14 coaches derailed one by one. Multiple compartments of the train were twisted and twisted.
Due to the rapid movement, one compartment climbs over another compartment. First it was reported that 6 coaches were derailed, later it was reported that 14 coaches were derailed.
On receiving the information, the state police along with rescue forces and a delegation from the Central Railway Ministry rushed to the accident site. Emergency centers have already been opened and numbers provided for central and local assistance. Donations for the injured have also been announced.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the cause of the accident. It has been announced that strict action will be taken if any kind of negligence is found.
Condoling the accident, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet that the Ministry of Railways and the government of Uttar Pradesh are doing their best to deal with the derailment of the train.
