Amnesty International, the international human rights organization on the Rohingya issue, said that they have a lot of evidence that Myanmar's security forces are systematically burning the villages of Rohingya Muslims.
Analyzing many satellite images of Rakhine state, Amnesty said large areas have been burned in more than eighty places over the past three weeks.
Amnesty noted in their report that Myanmar's army and its allied local groups are doing this heinous act.
The kind of evidence that Amnesty International has presented and reported on the Myanmar government's terra cotta policy in Rakhine must be disturbing.
Analyzing satellite images, satellite fire detection technology, and images from the area and people's accounts, Amnesty found that a total of 80 locations have been heavily arson since August 25.
The organization also said that Myanmar's security forces and organized groups that have taken the law into their own hands are also carrying out this incitement against the Rohingya. They burned village after village. They fired indiscriminately on people after fleeing.
Tarana Hasan, an Amnesty official, said, in her words, it is clear that these acts of violence are being carried out in a well-planned manner. As evidence, Amnesty said it analyzed satellite images from the previous four years of areas where fires had been set and found no evidence of arson. He mentioned that Rohingya villages have been selectively set on fire.
In villages where Rohingyas and Rakhines live side by side, Rakhine houses survived the fire, Amnesty noted in their report.
Meanwhile, international pressure on Myanmar's military-controlled government has increased today over the Rohingya refugee crisis.
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who is visiting London, said that violence by Burmese forces against Rohingya Muslims is totally unacceptable. This violence must be stopped immediately.
Mr. Tillerson also said, "We understand the difficult and complex situation that Aung San Suu Kyi is facing." We all know how people are treated based on ethnic identity. The international community also supports it. But this violence must be stopped, this torture of people must be stopped at any cost. Many say that this is a case of ethnic cleansing, Mr. Tillerson noted.
