The country's first submarine cable (C-MI-4) will be closed tomorrow from October 22 to October 24, for 3 days. At this time, the government will maintain normal bandwidth supply in the country with the second submarine cable (C-MI-U-5) as an alternative system. However, at that time the people associated with the related sector have expressed fear that there may be a disaster in the internet service due to bandwidth shortage.
It has been said that the amount of bandwidth that will be provided on those 3 days will make the shortfall less than 50 Gbps from the total demand - the government organization BSCCL told the media. Internet service providers claim that the bandwidth deficit will be more than 200 Gbps at that time. Due to which the internet service providers are facing the threat of severe internet disaster in the country at that time.
Note that Bangladesh is currently getting 300 Gbps bandwidth through C-MI-4 submarine cable. 250 Gbps is used in this, it is provided by BSCCL. But the total bandwidth usage in the country is 440 Gbps.
On the other hand, 6 ITC (International Terrestrial Cable) companies are importing bandwidth of slightly more than 150 Gbps.
It is reported that the capacity of the 2nd submarine cable (C-ME-U-5) is 100 Gbps. Bangladesh will suffer from a bandwidth deficit of about 150 Gbps.
