The Dhaka Times Desk US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has hinted at imposing sanctions on Myanmar over the Rohingya issue. For the first time, he described the army's operation against the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar as 'ethnic cleansing' or 'ethnic cleansing'.

The US Secretary of State also said that the US is considering imposing certain sanctions against Rohingyas because of the horrific abuses and those responsible for it.
Last September, UN human rights chief Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein also accused Myanmar of ethnic cleansing.
Tillerson made these comments at a time when in just a few days, the Pope, the leader of Christians, is going to visit Myanmar.
The US Secretary of State also said in his statement, "A thorough and thorough analysis of the information we have received will make it clear that the situation in northern Rakhine State is nothing short of an ethnic cleansing against the Rohingya."
A delegation led by US Senator Jeff Markle recently returned from a tour of Myanmar and neighboring Bangladesh.
The members of the delegation said that they were deeply disturbed by the incidents of torture-killing-murder-rape they heard about the Rohingyas.
Note that Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Myanmar on November 26. The Pope is also scheduled to meet Myanmar's army chief General Min Aung Laing and the country's de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi during the visit.
