Oxford has finally withdrawn the honor given to Suu Kyi!

The Dhaka Times Desk Oxford has finally withdrawn the honor given to the leader of Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi! Britain's Oxford City Council has revoked the 'Freedom of the City' title given to Myanmar's leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

The council voted to revoke Suu Kyi's title last October, BBC reported. City officials said Suu Kyi is no longer eligible for the Freedom of the City award due to Myanmar's treatment of Rohingya Muslims.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi is associated with the city of Oxford, as she studied there.

Hundreds of thousands of people have sought refuge in Bangladesh due to violence in Myanmar's Rakhine state. Suu Kyi herself was under house arrest for years while the country was under military control. At that time, he was seen to be vocal for the establishment of democracy.

However, the world has been shocked by Suu Kyi's role in the way Rohingya Muslims have been persecuted in the country. Amnesty International has also condemned this barbaric torture.

Suu Kyi's photo has already been removed from St. Hugh's College, where she studied.
