The number of residents of the village is only 20 people. Most of them are retired. Due to age, they no longer have the ability to work.
It is known that Alwin is a small village located about 120 kilometers from the capital Berlin. Most of the residents have left the village in search of livelihood. Before the introduction of the Euro, Germany's currency was the Deutschmark. In 2000 the village of Alwyn was sold to an individual for the symbolic price of one Deutschmark.
The village of Alwin was a part of the former communist East Germany until the early 1990s. At that time, the financial prosperity of the village was also sufficient. There was a brickyard very close to the village of Alwin. The residents of this village used to earn their livelihood by working in brick kilns. Every family was also financially sound.
After the unification of Germany in 1990, the village of Alwin gradually disappeared into oblivion. Due to the closure of the brick kiln, the livelihood of the villagers became tight. Residents of the village started to leave the village and move to other places in search of livelihood. Thus the once prosperous village of Alwin became virtually deserted.
