A gas extraction company called Great Eastern Energy recently opened stations at Hirapur and Raniganj in Asansol. Coalbed methane gas or CBM is made from methane gas. And that's how the city traffic is running. In Hirapur, the poisonous gas is mainly coming out from the damodar river. The mithon in the groove of the stone is mixing with the water. Bubbles are also forming on the water.

Fire is burning because of this poisonous gas. Due to which the crowd of the picnic party has increased. Cooking is done by burning fire using methane gas. The sparrow festival has accumulated. Although plastic chatties or glass have been burnt, no major accidents have been reported here so far.

Mining experts say picnicking on Damodar River pastures is not recommended at all. It has been warned that a major accident may occur at any time due to the effect of toxic methane gas.
