The Dhaka Times Desk Oscar Morel was found guilty of involvement in the murder of a Bangladeshi in New York.
A United States court has found Oscar Morell guilty of shooting dead a Bangladeshi-American mosque imam and his accomplice in New York. Morrell, 37, was convicted last Friday after a nearly three-week trial before Queens Supreme Court Justice Gregory Lasak.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Oscar Morel, a resident of Brooklyn, deliberately killed Imam Maulana Akunji, 55, and his associate Thara Uddin, 64, in broad daylight. On August 13, 2016, they were shot dead on their way home after offering prayers from Al-Furqan Jame Mosque.
Attorney Brown described the killings as 'senseless broad daylight shootings of gun violence in the neighborhood of families and children. Morel, who was convicted, however, denied the charge of killing the two Bangladeshis.
