রোহিঙ্গাদের ফিরিয়ে নেওয়ার ব্যাপারে নানা টালবাহানার পর মিয়ানমারের নেত্রী অং সাং সুচি এক বিবৃতি দিয়ে বলেছেন, রোহিঙ্গাদের ‘নিরাপদ প্রত্যাবাসনের’ জন্য জাতিসংঘকে সম্পৃক্ত করার এখনই উপযুক্ত সময়।

The statement was released from Suu Kyi's office overnight after a meeting with a visiting UN Security Council delegation on Tuesday evening, a BBC report said.

ওই বিবৃতিতে বলা হয় যে, ‘শরণার্থীরা’ যাতে ‘নির্ভয়ে’ রাখাইনে ফিরতে পারে সেটি নিশ্চিত করা তার সরকারের পক্ষে সুবিধে হবে যদি বিদেশীদের (জাতিসংঘ) এই প্রক্রিয়ায় সম্পৃক্ত করা যায়।

Suu Kyi also said that in this regard, negotiations are underway to make an agreement with the United Nations Development Organization (UNDP) and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

নিরাপত্তা পরিষদ প্রতিনিধিদলের সফরের প্রসঙ্গ উল্লেখ করে অংসান সুচি তার বিবৃতিতে এমন কথাও বলেছেন যে, ‘এটি একটি মোড় ঘোরানো ঘটনা…গণতান্ত্রিক মিয়ানমারে সহিংসতার কোনোই স্থান নেই…যারা ঘরবাড়ি হারিয়ে পালিয়েছে তাদের ফিরিয়ে আনতে আমাদের জোর চেষ্টা করতে হবে, সহিংসতার মূল কারণগুলোও দূর করতে হবে।’

The Myanmar government and Aung San Suu Kyi herself have previously strongly opposed the involvement of the United Nations in the repatriation process. That's why analysts see this statement as a significant shift in Aung San Suu Kyi's position.

এই বিষয়ে জাতিসংঘ নিরাপত্তা পরিষদে ব্রিটেনের রাষ্ট্রদূত বিবিসিকে বলেছেন, সফরকারী কূটনীতিকরা সুচি ও মিয়ানমারের সেনাপ্রধানকে ‘স্পষ্ট করে বলেছেন’ রাখাইনে নির্যাতন, হত্যা ও ধর্ষণের ঘটনাগুলোর ‘বিশ্বাসযোগ্য’ তদন্ত না করলে আন্তর্জাতিক আদালতে (আইসিসি) বিচারের উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হবে।

Last week, an investigative report by the news agency Reuters said that the US government is collecting detailed information about the rape and killing of Rohingyas, so that it is possible to present evidence when the Myanmar military officials are tried at the ICC in the future. Related analysts think that this threat is creating pressure on the Myanmar government.

A senior UN official confirmed to the BBC that talks are underway with the Myanmar government on Rohingya repatriation. He believes there may be an agreement on this matter in the near future. However, it is also commented that it may take several months to start the repatriation process.
