"We are willingly and knowingly sowing the seeds of our own destruction," said a report by UNDRR chief Mami Mizutori and Belgium's CRED's Devrati Guh-Sapi. Good governance can also alleviate poverty, protect biodiversity and reduce the risk of natural disasters.
Meanwhile, the United Nations' new report entitled The Human Cost of Disasters says that this number of natural disasters is almost double compared to the 4,212 recorded from 1980 to 1999.
