The Dhaka Times Desk Libya has called on French President Emmanuel Macron to apologize to the Muslim world for hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims.
The Government of National Unity of Libya has also strongly condemned the statement that insulted the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
On Monday, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Libya, Mohammad Al-Kablabi, said that Macron only made such statements for political gain. People's hatred towards him increased due to his derogatory remarks against Islam.
Referring to a judgment given by the European Court of Human Rights in 2018, the Libyan spokesperson said, insulting the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) never falls within the scope of freedom of speech.
He called on Macron to retract his provocative statement and apologize unconditionally to the Muslim world.
At a ceremony to honor the murdered French teacher Samuel Paty last Wednesday, Macron said the display of caricatures about Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will not be stopped. Since then, Muslims in France have accused Macron of trying to suppress their religion and legitimize Islamophobia.
Several Arab countries, including Türkiye and Pakistan, have strongly condemned Macron's controversial comments. The entire world is already excited about the issue. In various Muslim countries of the world, including Bangladesh-Pakistan, common people have erupted in protests.
