The Dhaka Times Desk The sixth Edinburgh International Culture Summit (Edinburgh International Culture Summit) is being held at the Parliament of Scotland in partnership with the British Council.
This conference which started on August 26 will continue till August 28. The conference is being held to celebrate 75 years of Edinburgh as a 'Festival City'. KM Khalid, the State Minister of the Ministry of Culture, is representing Bangladesh at this biggest stage of world-cultural exchange.
The conference is being held as a unique global opportunity to encourage positive change and lasting impact through cultural policy and investment. The theme of this year's conference is highlighting one of the most important issues of our time - culture and a sustainable future.
The Sixth Edinburgh International Cultural Conference is partnered with the British Council, Edinburgh International Festival, Parliament of Scotland and the Governments of Scotland and the United Kingdom. World famous artists, influencers and culture ministers of different countries participated in the conference. KM Khalid, Minister of State for Cultural Affairs, is leading the delegation of Bangladesh in the cultural conference. The delegation of Bangladesh also includes Kazi Nurul Islam, Deputy Secretary of the Culture Exchange Wing of the Ministry of Culture and Nahin Idris, Head of Arts of the British Council.
In this global event of cultural exchange, the Minister of State for Culture will highlight the examples of Bangladesh's cultural position and cultural practices in front of culture ministers, cultural personalities, academics and leading people from all over the world.
During the three-day conference at the Scottish Parliament, Culture and Freedom, Culture and Education and Culture and Sustainability address cultural, social, environmental and political conflicts around the world; These issues will be discussed. Each of the themes will be highlighted through private policy discussions and workshops in plenary sessions of the Parliament's debating chamber. After the Culture Conference held in Edinburgh in 2018, this is the first time that Culture Ministers have participated in it.
Internationally renowned violinist and Edinburgh International Festival Director Designate Nicola Benedetti and Microsoft Education's Vice-President Education Experience Deirdre Kvarnstrom will deliver keynote addresses at the conference on culture and education.
The minister and other participants will discuss the necessary steps to ensure a sustainable environment through a wide range of artistic activities in the conference. Many from around the world will participate, including Mina Girgis, founder of The Nile Project, and Dame Meg Taylor, former Secretary-General (until 2021) of The Pacific Islands Forum. At the conference, talented young artists and leading people in the cultural field expressed their plans and views on encouraging cultural exchange between different races and generations.
In this regard, Minister of State for Culture KM Khalid said, “We are working together with development partners like the British Council and UNESCO to achieve a sustainable environment in the cultural sector of the country.
We believe this collaboration will help us build a culturally balanced sustainable Bangladesh.
