The Dhaka Times Desk All the discussions and criticisms about the January 5 election at home and abroad were in favor of the opposition party, the BNP or 18 parties. But after the election, the wind is blowing in the government's hands.
The people who criticized the government in the talk shows are now saying the opposite. Many are now saying that there are many reasons behind the failure of BNP's movement. Someone is saying that people would have joined the movement if they had left the Jamaat. In that case the movement would have been successful. Again, someone says that if he was not involved in terrorist activities, there would have been public support.
Thousands of such things are heard now. Those who said before the election, this election will not last. Now they are changing their tune and saying that it is not unusual to stay in power for five years in the way the government is sitting now.
Again, the way the foreigners were pressuring the government before the formation of the government, it seemed that after the elections, they would probably cut ties with this government. But in reality, the opposite is happening. Now Russia, China and America have also said that they are with this government. In other words, it finally supported the government. Foreigners, however, are still saying that a negotiated election involving all parties should go as soon as possible. But the foreigners are now clear, whatever happens will happen at the will of the government. Just applying pressure will do no good.
As the EU countries showed before the elections, they are now advising BNP to leave militant organizations like Jamaat-Hefazat. Even suggesting the government to ban them for terrorist activities. But such an attitude was not there before the election.
After the execution of Pakistan's Quader Mulla verdict, which had passed a motion of censure in the parliament, their tone has also changed after the elections. Now they have told the UN permanent representative that they will not talk about the internal justice system of Bangladesh.
Again, the role played by the international media in the last two months has now been reversed. It seems that the international media is now supporting the current government.
A lot seems to have changed after the election. It seems that all parties, domestic and foreign, are moving in favor of the government. In such a situation, it is understood that the opposition party BNPO is changing their attitude somewhat. BNP has now withdrawn from the hartar-blockade. BNP has understood that if it goes on strike at this moment, it will lose public support. Therefore BNP is giving other programs other than hartal-blockade strategically.
The people of the country also hate strike-blockade. But people also favor a free and fair election. All parties can participate in the elections. Sixteen million people of the country hope that peace will return to the country.
