The researchers hope that within the next two years, success will come in using this microchip to restore the memory of people with memory loss.
In a recent report, CNN reported that researchers at the University of Southern California and Wake Forest University have been researching the way human memory is preserved for more than a decade.
According to reports, long-term memories are stored in a specific region of the human brain called the hippocampus. They have succeeded in researching how memories are formed. The researchers hope that the microchips developed by them will be able to restore the memory of the brain injury, brain hemorrhage, Alzheimer's patients.
In the case of mice and monkeys, researchers have succeeded in recovering memory using microchips made of silicon. The microchip stores memories in the same way that certain areas of the brain store memories, and can stimulate the brain with electrical waves. The researchers told CNN that they will continue to do more research to develop memory retention devices
Neuroscientist and researcher Trede Berger said in this context, “We may not be able to restore the personal memories of every person with amnesia; But I can give back the ability to make memories.”
