The Dhaka Times Desk The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al Ashaykh issued a decree saying that Saudi soldiers fighting in Yemen do not have to fast.
According to Press TV, quoting the Saudi daily Okaz, the Grand Mufti excluded the soldiers stationed on the border of Yemen from this fatwa last year. The Grand Mufti issued a similar decree last Tuesday. However, this year's decree has exempted all soldiers engaged in war on the orders of Riyadh from fasting.
The decree of the Grand Mufti said, 'You can choose between the two good deeds of Jihad and fasting. Those who are capable can do both. If one is unable to do so, he may not fast. He can perform these fasts at some other time later.'
Note that since March of last year (2015), Saudi troops have been attacking Yemen every day. The Saudi army has started this fight against the Houthi rebels in order to return the former president of Yemen Abd Rabbu Mansour Al Hadi to power. This has killed thousands of people. Much civilian infrastructure was destroyed, including hospitals, schools and factories.
