The Dhaka Times Desk Eminent journalist Golam Sarwar's burial today. His body was taken to his workplace Samakal office at 9 am today. There, after paying the last respects to the colleagues, the second funeral was held at the adjacent Bangladesh Textile University ground.
The body was then taken to the Central Shaheed Minar. People from all walks of life paid their respects there from 11 am to 12:30 pm under the management of Samilit Sansgkar Jota. After paying respects, the body will be taken to the National Press Club premises.
Journalists will pay their last respects to their parents at the press club. Another funeral will be held after Baad Zohar. Then, after Asr, the distinguished journalist Golam Sarwar will be laid to rest in Mirpur Martyr's Intellectual Cemetery.
Yesterday afternoon, Golam Sarwar's body was taken to Banaripara in his native village Barisal by helicopter. After the first funeral, people from all walks of life paid their respects to him.
It is to be noted that the president of the editorial board, Golam Sarwar, was admitted to a hospital in the capital on July 29 after developing pneumonia and lung infection. When the condition worsened, the 75-year-old veteran journalist was taken to the Singapore General Hospital on August 3. Golam Sarwar breathed his last at 9:25 PM Bangladesh time last Monday while undergoing treatment there. Samakal editor Golam Sarwar's body was brought home in a Singapore Airlines flight at 10:50 pm on Tuesday.
