The 53-year-old Russian police officer named Mikhail Popkov killed 55 women and one police officer from 1992 to 2010.

Mikhail Popkov admitted that he raped at least 10 of these women before killing them. He was arrested in 2012 after police were able to identify his car following a DNA test.

After killing the women around the city of Ankarask, near the Irkutsk region of Siberia, Mikhail Popkov would throw their dismembered bodies in various forests, roadsides or in a local cemetery.

Around some of these bodies, the wheel marks of Popkov's 'Niva' car are also found. Mikhail Popkov was finally caught when the investigators began searching for the owners of all Niva vehicles in the surrounding area.

After being caught, Mikhail Popkov confessed to the police for the first time about 20 murders. The youngest woman killed by him was only 15 years old.

A court in Irkutsk, Russia, sentenced Mikhail Popkov to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of killing 22 people. However, as investigations into other murders began, the notorious killer was kept in police custody instead of being sent to jail.
